While I love the new breed of super fine Models on the market, I've began collecting some of the trains that were special during my childhood in the 70's most of which were Bachmann. So here I share the collection of [R/W/B] Bachmann 1976 Run of Models for the Bicentennial Celebration. Do they Run? I dunno! Once I inspected the Loco and found no evidence that it had seen track time or gunk in the truck gears, I skipped the normal tear down and cleaning, decoder install, opting instead to just give it a dab of lube, and return it to its box for display.
At the time the Bi-Centennial train set consisted of the Loco & Caboose and several regular freight cars. The Boxcars were available Separately. There were 2 loco/caboose combinations done for the occasion, there were 6 Boxcars in this series.
What their worth? Well I've seen a loco [R/W/B Version] used, with MT couplers go for 30+. The Loco shown on this page, has never been run and is complete as sold in 1975.
The Freight Cars fetch $10-$15. However I haven't seen an entire collection referenced anywhere on the web, and I have yet to contact a toy trains appraiser.
Sept 2009 - I've found a boxed N&W Bicentennial set.
I try and get multiples and those of lesser qualtiy or show signs of real use get adapted to run on my DCC Layout, nothing beats being able to just fire up the toy trains from a time gone by..
